A look behind the fence at California Mini Truck Dismantlers
In the process of building our SEMA project, I got the opportunity to head over to one of my favorite places on the entire planet, California Mini Truck Dismantlers over in Montclair, California. Now I know that you’re probably thinking that this is probably just another place where old mini-trucks go to meet their end – but this isn’t any ordinary auto recycling center. That’s because Troy, Ron and all of the California Mini Truck staff aren’t just a group of guys out trying to peddle used parts, they’re actually involved far beyond just being salesmen. In fact, when I showed up to pick over some of the S-10 trucks that they have out back, Troy was getting his Toyota ready for a trip up to Big Bear Lake for an annual rock-crawling event out there.
And not only do they offer the standard selection of used mini-truck parts, they also offer a full service repair facility as well as full off-road suspension upgrades. They also offer rebuilt transmissions and engines as well as a full compliment of replacement parts for mini-trucks of any vintage.
We went looking for a complete dash, door panels, A-pillar plastics, and kick panels for our SEMA project. The interior of this little truck was pretty trashed and we decided that it would be easier to just replace everything than to try and save what we had. Plus the heater and AC controls were smashed and the dash was wrapped in weathered tweed. They actually had all of the parts we needed already pulled and neatly organized in their parts storage area, so we just told them what we needed and they carted it out to the front counter while we went out back to shoot a couple of photos of the incredible number of trucks and parts they have on hand.
